Book 2 has a name! I honestly can’t wait to tell you all more about this story (which will hopefully be soon!). Also, the cover reveal should be happening later this year!

So there’s actually an interesting tale behind this book. I originally sold TQR + 2 companion books to HarperTeen. When it came time for me to draft companion book 2, I did, and yet I disliked it so much that I scrapped it and rewrote the whole thing, only to find that I was unhappy with this manuscript as well. I remember being in a near panic about it, because I needed to hand something over to my editor, and yet I wanted that something to be my best.

A little over a year ago, I was sitting on my back deck throwing the Frisbee to my dog, thinking about my Book 2 woes. I had a journal on my lap, and I decided that I would try something that I hadn’t entertained before, which was writing book 2 as a sequel.

I wrote the first line in my journal, reuniting with Brienna, picking up where TQR left off. And then I wrote another line…and the scene began to unfold so vividly I had to run inside, open a word doc and begin typing it down.

This story literally poured out of me.

There was a spark again, that same spark that I had felt when I drafted TQR all those years ago. The can’t-eat-can’t-sleep spark of a draft. I drafted this book in 24 days, and I cried my eyes out by the last scene (don’t let this alarm you—the tears were caused from the euphoria that comes with finishing a story you are proud of, a story that you love).

All of this to say, I adore this book. It is everything I want my second book to be. And I hope you’ll enjoy it.

Earlier this week, my lovely team at HarperCollin’s Children’s Books in the United Kingdom sent me a box of the U.K. edition of The Queen’s Rising and the books are absolutely stunning! I still cannot get over the beauty of the cover (that gold foil has my heart skipping a beat), and the pages smell sooooo gooooood (yes, I am a religious page sniffer) and honestly, this book just fits so comfortably in my hands. You know how sometimes books are awkward or kind of difficult to hold? Well, this one fits into your hands perfectly (which, let’s be honest, can be a big deal if you love printed books like I do).

I am so excited about these books that I’m giving one away on my Instagram! Come find me @beccajross to enter!

Also, if you want to see the gleam of the gold foil on the cover….

So my launch party for The Queen’s Rising was Friday night! We had a full house at Avid Bookshop, and I was amazed and honored by the love shown to me and my book. I am honestly so thankful for everyone who came, who supported a debut author and her dream. We sold out of books *weeps* which is incredible (although I am so sorry if you came to the launch and were unable to get a signed book!).

Here are some of the highlights of the night:

I had to stop by the UGA arch at the end of the night, to snap a pic with Brienna. All in all, it was a wonderful night. THANK YOU again for making this moment so special.

I meant to log on and post this yesterday, but my pub day was far busier than I thought it was going to be. All of this to say…The Queen’s Rising debuted yesterday! I honestly cannot believe this day has finally arrived, and I was overwhelmed in the best way possible by so many good wishes and happiness and book birthday posts. I am SO THANKFUL for everyone who reached out to me; it truly meant the world to me!

And can we talk about my preorder campaign for a minute? I was honestly expecting around 30 people to enter. And I was completely blown away and thrilled by how many of you entered! I am so excited to send out all the goodies, and again, THANK YOU for preordering a debut author’s book! Because I had such amazing engagement from so many of you around the world, I already have some plans for a Book 2 preorder campaign (which… BOOK 2!!! I cannot wait to finally tell you more about this one!! Hopefully within the next few weeks or months! I can say that the cover is already in the works and I’m about to go through my second round of edits, so hang tight. More news will be coming soon!). Now, back to what I was saying…I have randomly chosen the four winners and will be emailing them later today, so they can be on the lookout for packages to arrive. And then I’ll begin sending off my swag to everyone. I’ve got quite a few envelopes to address, but don’t worry–they are on the way. And I truly hope you enjoy it!

Okay, one last thing.

Of course, I had to go to Barnes and Noble and find my book on the shelf yesterday, because, you know, it still didn’t quite feel real. Not gonna lie…I was kind of shaking when I walked towards the YA bookshelves. And then I found it right away. A whole stack of TQRs on the bottom shelf, near Veronica Roth and Margaret Rogerson. And I about cried, to see myself shelved with them. And then I got to sign those books, and it was simply wonderful and fulfilling.

I sold this book to HarperCollins on October 1, 2015.

And now here she is, sitting on shelves, on February 6, 2018.

It’s been a long journey. And there have been highs but there have also been lows. Publishing is difficult. But when I hear from YOU–readers who love my book, readers who have been impacted by my words–it makes all of my tears and worries and sleepless nights worth it.

You are amazing, readers. And I truly hope you enjoy Brienna’s adventure.

I really love hosting giveaways. I love giving away books. I love giving away little trinkets and treasures that tie into the aforementioned books. And with my author copies of The Queen’s Rising sitting pretty on my bookshelves…I thought it was time for me to officially host a giveaway of TQR on my instagram!

I am also addicted to Etsy. Last holiday season, I bought all of my gifts from Etsy. I think it’s a combination of supporting small businesses + the irresistible glamor of handmade, one of a kind goods. Needless to say, I spend quite a bit of time scouting Etsy and buying from Etsy.

So I’ve married my love of giveaways to my love of Etsy and I’m hosting a giveaway on my Instagram.

What’s included:

*A signed hardback copy of The Queen’s Rising

*Brienna’s solstice flower crown, made by BloomDesign Studio

*A print of the iconic Medieval tapestry, The Captive Unicorn, printed by Stardust Print Shop

*A Crescent Moon and Turquoise gemstone ring, made by Cameoko Jewelry.

This is an international giveaway but it’s only on my Instagram, so you can find me @beccajross. Ends Friday February 2 at noon, EST!

One of the things I enjoy the most about being an author is getting to chat with book bloggers and readers! Check out my latest interview with Amber on her blog, The Reading Addict, here: Interview with Amber
